Return to Wuhu Island: Wuhu Island, known from Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports, is the setting for Pilotwings Resort, too. The microsite has an inviting, catchy design with the look and feel of the game.
Spread the word: The features and aircraft from the game are displayed with a lot of details, and users can watch numerous video sequences. If they like what they see, they can share their opinion with their friends on Facebook and invite them to join the Pilotwings website.
Extremely versatile Thanks to the hybrid video player (HTML5/Flash), the Pilotwings Resort videos can be played with almost any client.
Realisation
Flash, the most established technology for displaying videos, music and website animations, was to be avoided. Nevertheless, we of course had to integrate various movie clips, sounds and smart animations. We used a hybrid video player (HTML5/Flash). When accessed by browsers without flash, it allows for the videos to be viewed with common control features. The animations on the microsite were created with the JavaScript library jQuery. As usual, the microsite was developed for the entire European, the Russian, and the South African markets. And once more, we effectively used share functionalities for Facebook and Twitter.
Outcome
The microsite was published in two steps. Within two weeks, we created a teaser website containing the game trailer to advertise the game already in the weeks preceding its actual launch in the shops. We timed the launch of the complete website with the date the game was finally available for sale in the shops. The site is compatible with all common browsers, the Wii browser, iPads, iPhones and android systems.
